MUSTA PARAATI - THE LEADER NEW ALTERNATIVE VIDEO!

So a couple hours ago,Cleopatra records released a new music video for Musta Paraati's 2018 single "The Leader". If you remember, I was not too fond of the original music video, and I do find that this particular record company does not escape the gimmicky reputation LA is guilty of. BUT, this time, I am very pleasantly surprised, as this music video does not feature exclusively the vocalist with a bunch of chicks dancing around him. Instead, it's shot exclusively at the band's rehearsal space in Helsinki, in black and white, introducing you to the full band as they perform the song, including the original members, drummer Yka, now-defunct bassist Panda, and the soul of the band's music, guitarist Saku Paasiniemi.

We can all agree that the previous music video was not indicative of a band, but rather a solo act pop star with nothing to show but arses on screen. This new video shines a light on the entire band that has such a long and loaded history behind them in the Finnish music scene, and without unecessary visual distractions, it does justice to the song. As much as I like to party like the next person, and I appreciate a beautiful woman to grace the screen while listening to a good song, there's only so much partying and women you can put in a music video before it cheapens the band and renders the song irrelevant. Indeed, I am strongly of the opinion that, just as they ought to distract you from a bad song with eye candy, too much eye candy forced upon you can instantly make the song appear bad, no matter how good it actually is on the radio. But then again, who said LA knows what "quality" is?

I don't know what prompted the record company to release a new music video for the song a year and a half later when they already had one made already. But I am happy. This a music video that fits the song better. Shot entirely in black white, alternating closeups on each member as they perform, the entire band, and shots of the musicians gazing outside a window with the streetlight shining on their faces through the blinds, it paints a much better visual for the hard and heavy atmosphere the song resonates.

Alsoooo, there's a new live video which I will get into later, since now I am famished! For now, do yourself a favour, if you haven't already, go watch the new video by clicking the link I embedded above, and pretend the first music video never happened...dance to the Black Parade!
